Healing Hands (Part 4)

So we are continuing on with Mum’s reiki healing path in the early days of developing her new passion.... I know so many would be skeptical of the healing power of reiki.... it’s really not like those ‘miracles’ that you see on the TV where someone jumps up out of a wheelchair suddenly able to walk again... it’s something that you really have to experience first hand to believe! Now I can vouch that my mum’s friend ‘Ron’ would normally fall into the very skeptical group and I would never in a million years expect him to become one of her most regular customers, but I guess with a chronic pain problem he was willing to give anything a try! I will let my mum tell you the story....

My Reiki Journey So Far - Part 4

Written by Chris Daniels, Reiki Master.

It's now a Monday evening in mid September 2015 and the time has arrived for Ron to come and try his first reiki session. I explain to him again what he might experience and that sometimes my hands would hover over his head and body and that at other times I would actually lay my hands on him. Understandably, at first he had difficulty relaxing - even I could see that being taken upstairs by a woman other than your partner to be told to take off your watch, your shoes, to lie down and close your eyes, might just leave you feeling a bit vulnerable, despite the fact that we had know each for the best part of 30 years!

I already knew that Ron had an issue with one ankle so we had a quick recap about what his doctors had said and I took a look at the ankle. I remember being shocked by the difference in girth of his bad ankle versus his good ankle. In hindsight I should have measured it, but it was about three times the size of his normal slim ankle. I do remember thinking 'oh my gosh, I do hope this works for him!'; for those of you who know me well, you will realise that they are not the precise words that ran through my head ... the actual words were a bit more colourful, but you get my drift!

Once I was sure he was comfortable we got started. Within the first few minutes he reported that he could feel a lot of heat and he could see a shining white light. He then shared that the tension in his shoulders was lifting as he properly settled down. At the end Ron added cagily that he had seen an orange tinged eye and voiced that others might think he was losing the plot if he shared this with anyone! For my part the only thing I had noted was that Ron's closed eyes had been flittering about as I hovered over his brow (third eye chakra) and apart from that, for me the hour passed peacefully and uneventfully.

Ron returned for his second appointment three days later on the Thursday evening. At the end of the session we had a chat about what he had experienced, if anything. He said that he had seen six blue dots that had lightening going across them and that they had changed from light to dark. More interestingly he had felt that someone (he knew it was not me) was holding his dodgy ankle / foot for some of the time. I told Ron that the only thing I had to report was that his eyes had been flittering about again. He then hesitantly shared with me that since his session on Monday he had had no pain in his ankle! I was of course delighted ... to put it mildly. Ron was pretty pleased too!

The following Monday Ron returned for session three. On this occasion Ron didn't see anything, but he had felt an extra pair of hands on his ankle straight away and felt that someone was holding his hand. He had also felt twitchy but overall he was very relaxed throughout the session and said that he was very keen to continue as what had been long term and permanent pain had now stayed away for a full week.
This pattern continued, in that Ron came twice a week for the first couple of months and then dropped to once a week. During this time he would often report that 'ankle man ' was in residence. Ron also had many visions during the course of his sessions. Often he felt that he was flying at great speed down a tunnel of white light, rushing past lots of different scenes; a blonde woman wearing glasses, a William Wallace lookalike wearing a kilt, a group of horses running, a Roman square filled with people, harbours with military ships, summer fêtes, gangsters and over the months many, many more. Sometimes he felt that he was actually a character in the scenes, but not always. More than once he told me that he had tried to slow down his journey at these times, so that he could have a closer look, but felt that that was out of his control. It is strange that at first, these episodes felt sensational and abnormal but as the weeks went by they became the norm for Ron's reiki sessions.
By January 2016, I realised that Ron's ankle was much, much better, to the degree that I had to check with him which was his 'bad' ankle, because visually I could no longer tell the difference. If ever a reiki practitioner had had validation that reiki does actually work this was it! To this day it remains the most startling example that I share with people. Ron carried on coming to see me on an infrequent basis until 2019. His visits gradually tapered off as he gained confidence in the fact that he was indeed healed. Here I will drop in a timely reminder that he had healed himself and I was just the facilitator, but what a privilege it was to be part of his journey.
Next time I will share my experience of the 2nd degree reiki training and the new skills that go with it.

To be continued...
